‘More Than Just A First Lady’ is a stage play that highlight some of the stereotypes associated with pastor’s wives. Lynnell Logan a.k.a L.A Logan and SoWright Theater Company hopes to shine a spotlight on the challenges that come with the title ‘First Lady’. Most see this title as prestigious and one of honor, but the real “shine” often falls on the pastor. First Ladies’ often make the biggest sacrifices that allow the Pastor to pastor. These sacrifices often leave first ladies dealing with feeling undervalued, feeling unappreciated, isolated, lack of ambition, unrealistic expectations, lack of identity, disrespect, and various forms of abuse. By the end of ‘More Than Just A First Lady’ we hope that our audience will see the women behind the title of ‘First Lady’ as a human that desires the same things every other woman does.
SHORT SYNOPSIS OF THE PLAY
First Lady Ebonie Hawkins-O’Hare's life is a relentless juggling act of faith, family, and ambition, but when she dares to break free from the suffocating expectations of her role as a pastor’s wife, she uncovers dark secrets lurking within her church’s sacred walls and her own lineage. As she seeks to explore a hidden side of herself, her rebellion sparks a risky chain of events that threaten to unravel her reputation, shatter her marriage, and expose truths that some would kill to keep buried. With her spiritual and personal worlds colliding, Ebonie must navigate Productions hopes to shine a spotlight on the challenges that come with the title ‘First Lady’.
